What should you think of when you want to start making a template. Like whats the perfect idea for your design. What do you guys do to help you out. I know I look at other peoples work just to get a general idea started in my head. It isint always the best thing to do but it works.

Maybe if you look at some random colour sets, and then make something from there, or just any piece of art?

Looking at other designs is a good way to get inspired, but you don't want to go to far and just copy someone else's work.

Also, using color blending tools etc, help make good color choices that work well together in a design.

I guess kind of having a clear picture in your head before you even start, then adding to it as you go along.

the same goes for me. i love browsing through different sites and getting ideas on how the colors, design, navigation and other features are used. it's not of course to copy any of them. it's making myself inspired to come up with my own combination.

A lot of times I come up with a mind block, that's when doing tutorials like Josh's helps - teaches me what is possible and reminds me of the possibilities. There are lots of other tutorials out there on Photoshop and just looking at menu designs and such helps stir up ideas, at least it does for me.

I have done that before as well, looking at attractive layouts in print sometimes inspired great web design as well, the two often go hand in hand.
